Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks

Search Engine Optimization, popularly known as SEO these days, is the process of improving your website so that it achieves a higher ranking in a search engine search result. It is one of the most practical and effective marketing strategies now. Knowing the seo tips and tricks of this aspect of internet technology can help you and your business succeed. The following are some useful SEO Tips.

Place navigational links in all web pages. You should allow a search engine to locate all your pages. Search engines look for html link tags. Therefore you should refrain from placing flash or JavaScript navigation links or images on your site.

Provide relevant content. Put as many appropriate and relevant contents as you can in order to have a higher chance at ranking better. People who search for products on a website do price comparisons and research first. So therefore you should include features and contents that will attract the searcher. Once the searcher is impressed, he/she will stick to your website and eventually buy your product.

Place keywords in your text. To improve your web site, you should employ keywords that are related to your field in all your text contents. This will enable search engine spiders to detect them thus giving your website a good chance at ranking higher. However you must not place excessive keywords. Doing so will just be a waste. What’s important therefore is consistency and balance in using keywords.

Employ related words and phrases in Meta tags, titles, and headers. This will result in an extensive and consistent range of keywords in your website. More than any other aspect in your website, search engines give a lot of weight on page titles, text, and header meta tags.

Maintain a consistent order or sequence of your keywords. Shifting to another order or sequence of a term or phrase may affect the consistency and balance of your website and may lower your rank in a search engine.

Employ keywords in your file names. Always remember that this is a vital key also in achieving a higher rank in the search results. Use underscore between keywords. This will have a better chance of being detected by search engines. The keywords should best describe the contents of your webpage.

Use keywords in your links. In placing links in your website, use keywords that best describe the webpage link. This will enable the advanced search engines to detect the content of the link.

Submit your website to relevant and widely used sources. Yahoo.com, Zeal.com, and DMOZ.org are some of the most popular manually edited internet directories and are frequently used by widely known search engines such as AltaVista, LookSmart, Google, and Yahoo. Remember also to follow the submission rules of these internet directories to avoid being rejected.

Search engine optimization is the new trend in sales and marketing these days. Following the seo tricks and tips mentioned will make your website a top business or product site. Gone are the days when we had to spend big amounts on marketing and promoting our products.

Cheap Domain Name Registration

Invitations for cheap domain registrations can be pretty alluring, especially if you are desperately in need of a domain but short on the moolah. Some might say that going for a cheap domain name is a bad choice through and through, since going for a cheap domain name ultimately means compromising on the quality. However, some people would beg to differ. There are a lot of domain name providers out there right now, and all you need is due diligence if you really want to weed out the cheap but reliable domain name registrars from the bad ones.

It is actually very easy to look for cheap domain names on the web. Just google in “cheap domain registration’ and there you go, a long, long list of cheap domain registration opportunities to choose from. However, do not fall for the cheapest domain name registrar on the list. If you are not the world’s ultimate cheapskate then you are safe. But not all people are that sensible and that is why you have to be careful. You would not want to do this if you want to make sure that your site will get everything that it needs. Cheap domain name registrars are either scams or they might offer your limited services which you will only find out about once you have signed up with them.

This leads you to the next and more important decision. How do you choose the right domain registrar? It is easy to fall prey to countless scams that abound online but after you have found out which registrars are legit and which to avoid, you also need to know which cheap domain name registrar fits your needs.

The problem with cheap domain name registrars is that they have a limited number of services to offer than those that cost more but can actually give you more. Some cheap registrars may be totally legit, but now you have to look at what your site needs, and often that means going for something that costs a little bit more for that extra feature that your site needs. You can still choose a domain site registrar that is pretty cheap, it should also offer you all the things that you need for your site.

The most important thing to do this is to do your research. The Internet is a big place, and you need to do a lot of surfing and reading to find your domain name registrar that looks, feels, and sounds legit and right for you. Find out how long the registrar has been in business. Ask around. Do a background check on the registrar that you are interested in, and see if you come with good or bad reviews about the company. Look for clearly-stated policies and terms of use for users on the site, and make sure that the site is regularly monitored. Asking real people about the domain registrars that they trust can narrow your search considerably. Usually you can tell if a registrar is reliable or not by the number of its satisfied customers.

History of Search Engine Optimization

Contribute by: Nasrullah Mardani.

It was not till 1996 when the concept of SEO arose. Studies where approached in US higher and enhanced than that of SEO, what exactly it is today. The Internet and its utility across worldwide was just at small pace where as the downloading of websites was a time takers at 56k modem. The commercialized Internet connectivity was just a bud in UK. Internet had no air and evolution till 1996, it was considered at small level. In 1996-97, the only search engine that was famous and known was Alta Vista, Google was not known and not used like Alta Vista, and it was only at very narrow concept. It was the time when the google was thought nothing and today google is the only source that eyes seek for. It was taken at small level but still it worked as the back link technology, google was treated nothing as what Alta Vita was treated. Along the Alta Vista, other dispersed search engines where also used like Msn, Lycos, Excite, Yahoo, Info Seek, and Netscape. The time went in learning and the Internet arose gradually on success with its little and diverse objects. Although these search engines worked but it was still not that much used like Alta Vista, it was similar like google is believed today.

It was the time the experts in Internet were learning their schemes and developing on stages, they knew and more aspects on which Internet could be commercialized in better way. The process of SEO was as easy as ABC. It was nothing than just placing tags in sufficient manner to be listed in an easy way, the index cycle was nothing like of a week, it just enrolled the work done in a month and that’s it. Thus SEO had no scope. They also established some property websites of 600 html pages and later they realized that some of the links returned to their URL and its internal pages with every time search it reached the first four pages. The experts realized that this is not the way it should work, but they even didn’t know how to make it over. In 1998, it was realized that the commercial organizations didn’t want websites to pay off only for the SEO services. It was the grand time when Google invested enough and took its prominent place with new facilities and equipments. It was the year google was building up and the things on Internet services took change. According ot its start, SEO services also received a chance to take fresh breath.

It was all about google when the news and reports were all about search engines development like being fast and rapidity, it took just a minute for the homepage of search engine to download, the news spread all over the internet usage places about the newly search engines, fast and active. The new change was so cool and the homepage was so quick with numerous colorful animated ads. Overall it was the time when the search engines and websites found new trends and ways for their glamour and presentations. The new colorful animated rollover buttons, animated ads, large images, pictures and graphics were at the king’s position. It was all enhanced but the only problem that the search engines faced and were bothered about was the time that took to download the page. The search engines get faded at this weak point; it appeared dysfunctional and slow, thus wasting times. At this position the SEO was in tension. The SEO services were then sold difficultly. It was the time when the commercial organizations took grants from the government and didn’t promised the designed website. Over all the British government didn’t gave moral support to the experts.

In 1999, Google arose and emerged. The URL function adding purpose in air and the software that worked for the submissions of links were used around the world width the only work sense of submit-submit-submit. By this time the AltaVista was disappearing. Msn and yahoo were going well and the listings were easy to maintain in them. Google by this time was not known for its back link factor. It was now capable to handle 500,000 queries every day. Google was superb and had made waves; it came out of the darkness with the funding of $25 million. As the google was developing and rising high, it gained partner ships of AOL and Netscape. It later came along with Virgin from UK. Google was all purposely fighting to control the growing market. Paid advertising and the banner advertising had great power in that time. They were too satisfied and dint not notice the whirlwind. The searchers were too tired and fed up of slow loading times and waiting long times for search results. The google gave them a way. Webmaster started to comment google as the best search engine and source of queries in every discussion and conversation any where, they said google was the best fast search, thus every forum was filled with positive google talks, just like every magazine and interview was made by a webmaster.

Till 2000, the google belonged to new era. Only adding up URL didn’t worked at all. Companies paid handsome money for their websites to be optimized and it was all work of indexing now. Those websites that were already in the indexes were flying high. They only not sought out for the good content but also for good appearance, flash animations, JavaScript rollovers and the musical intros! It was all good if your website is linked in a known search engine index. This geared life of SEO and it progressed in ethical ways. Google is updated on monthly cycle. The clients were on the page 1 on position 1, dense traffic was moved over each website, here the SEO worked high as well. The holiday and the travel sites were best gaining attentions and were rosy. Google now was covering and grasping the market. It was still proclaimed the google was the best and of course the statement itself was so hiring. Now all eyes were waiting for the google to start its monthly index updates. The SEO is developed and one of the major factors it realized that the most working search engine has superb spider technology. It was the tough year when the google started with its linking algorithm. In 2002, all SEO work was directly implied on client’s websites.

How Do You Choose A Cheap Web Hosting Service?

Basically a web host is like the cyberspace equivalent of an apartment landlord. They provide spaces for you to rent and set up your site, and you provide the content. A cheap apartment may be cheap, but it may turn out to be a construction horror that will leave you regretting the day that you signed that tenant lease. The same is true for cheap web hosting services. A lot of cheap web hosts abound online and it takes true grit and diligence to weed out the cheap but unreliable web hosting services form those that can actually be of use to you. You may think that you have found out the perfect web hosting services once you have seen their really low rates, only to discover that they cannot really meet your needs.

If you are low on money chances are you would look for a cheap but reliable web host. Most web masters who are starting out need smaller data space, and so they would naturally turn to cheaper web hosting sites. Why waste precious dollars on a large web hosting space that you won’t need, right? If you are like most people who are starting out small, you want web hosting service that is affordable (a.k.a cheap) and reliable.

Most people would opt for a shared web hosting service if they are concerned about the costs and if they are just starting out. A shared web hosting service is one which provides for multiple sites. Essentially many websites ‘live’ on one server which is connected to the internet, just like multiple tenants live on one apartment building. The websites that share the server share in the cost of maintaining the server and ensuring that their sites are secure, which means lower cost for each web site.

If you are planning to build a site you need to know that you are working with a web host that you can rely on, a company that is dedicated to making your site what you want it to be. Find a reliable host by asking around and doing your research. Do not be content with one or two attractive testimonials. Get opinions preferably from people you know, and see if the positive reviews outweigh the negative ones.

One of the best ways to know if a website, cheap or not, is legit or not is to look at the way they do business. Ask around and see which ones do transactions in a professional manner, which services have a good track record when it comes to up times, preferably one that has very rare record of glitches and unexplained outages. Your web host should help create your web site’s reputation as one that is consistently available online 24 hours a day, especially if you are earning through this website. Glitches for hours at a time can rob you of valuable income and drive away customers when they begin to see that your site is not reliable. If your web host goes down for more than 24 hours, that is a good sign that you should bail. Going and staying down for more than 24 hours is not a normal thing, and if this happens with your web host, you better start looking for a new one.

How do you get Google Sitelinks?

In this article, I am going to discuss the issue related to Google sitelinks. So the article is going to be little technical.

Google Sitelinks

Before three years, webmasters noted that Google has started showing “sub topic” or “sub category” links within the results. Now Google has finally implemented the change and the name given to that service is “SiteLinks”.

Sitelinks are the additional links that appear below search results in Google. They basically serve as a shortcut for internal pages of the website. It allows users to easily navigate through your website.

Google sitelinks are the ultimate endorsement of a website. While there are many clear compensation but knowing how to place site links is always like searching something in a dark art. More guess work and then hard work. But there is always a way out.

Last month in Feb, 2008, I planned to get Google sitelinks for one of my website. It was a very good experience to gain sitelinks as I also learned alot about Google sitemaps. As usual, Google is not entirely helpful in explaining the sitelink system. I worked on alot of options and found a way to get my sitelinks. I am going to share my experience so that you can also get sitelinks for your website by using these following steps:

1. Create Google sitemap of your site (e.g. sitemap.xml)

2. Upload this sitemap to your domain (e.g. www.domain.com/sitemap.xml)

3. Submit this URL in Google webmaster tool.

After submitting the sitemap, the next step is to verify your site on Google. Google offers two methods for verification. You can either upload an html file with the name which Google will specify on verification screen or you can add a Meta tag to your index file.

After verification, Select links from the left menu of webmaster tools and then navigate to sitelinks. From there you can see the pages which Google is going to use as sitelinks. You can easily manage your sitelinks from there and also block any page you don’t want to show as a sitelink.

I hope that the above information will help you in getting your sitelinks placed on Google.

Do it yourself Search Engine Optimization

by Junaid Ashraf

Search engine optimization and web design have become activities that are very popular and accessible to regular people. There is a lot of information available on the web for those eager to get their teeth into it. Basically, if you’ve got plenty of time on your hands and have a fairly good knowledge of how the Internet works, you could learn to do it all yourself. However, the learning process is a time consuming one and it would mean deterring yourself from day to day aspects of your business which require your attention.

There are millions of websites on the internet for different topics and it’s difficult to find one. The best way to finding desire site to using search engines, but the search engine may result more than 100000’s of websites. Websites with high ranking are listed in first few pages. Well, how would you make your website listed as high as possible in the result results?

In order to achieve this you need to work on Search engine optimization. Search engine marketing is as complex as traditional marketing. It’s applied to a completely different medium, the online one. Even professional companies sometimes offer only some SEO services instead of the whole package.

I have gathered some important tips to make it ease and help you to understand the process involved.

Site Page Naming

Page names are important! Relevant pages should be named after their primary keyword phrase.

Site File Names Analysis

Like the directory structure, file names play an equally important role. All file names should contain primary keywords or keyword phrases.

Web Page Title

The title tag of your page is the single most important factor to be considered when optimizing your web page for the search engines. It is because most engines & directories place a high level of importance on keywords that are found in your title tag.

Meta Tags

Meta elements provide information about a given webpage, most often to help search engines categorize them correctly, and are inserted into the HTML code in the format illustrated above, but are not visible to a user looking at the site.Meta tags are one of the most important elements of a web page when a search engine indexes it. This was originally created to help search engines find out important information about your page that they might have had difficulty determining otherwise. For Example, related keywords or a description of the page itself.

A search engine to display a short description of what your web page contains very often uses the description Meta tag. Some search engines look at the keywords entered into the keywords meta tag and will use this to display your page in the search results if it is one of the words used in the search criteria.

Web Page Copywriting

Like a Meta and Title tags, the content of your page is an important element in the search engine optimization process. The page copy being the actual, visible main content of the page should be presented and arranged in a logical and visually pleasing manner.

1. For the best results each page you submit should contain at least 200 words.
2. Include all keywords and arrange them in logical and readable manner.
3. More interlinking of keywords throughout the website.

Site Navigation

Is your site’s navigation search engine friendly? Search engines require simple text based navigation in order to correctly spider your website. Java Script based navigation only, results in an incomplete index of your website. Some important suggestions for site navigation:
1. Avoid using flash at main page.
2. Addition of keyword related text based navigation should be added to the bottom of all pages.
3. Using Sitemap
4. Avoid using image based navigation

Image ‘alt’ Attribute

Describe your images with the use of the alt tag. This will help search engines that index images to find your pages and will also help readers who use text only web browsers.
1. Do not use more than 2-3 keywords per page 2. Describe the image and don’t just list the keywords.

Link Popularity

Link popularity is how many other websites are pointing to your website. If you have 199 Web pages pointing to your domain, then your link popularity is 199. Link popularity varies because each engine indexes the web differently. Ideally you would want a minimum of several hundred links per search engine, back to your website; but actual figures depend on the number of links held by your competition.
